They were the parents of three children—Elizabeth (wife of Waterman Benner), David and Dennis (deceased). Our subject came to this State in 1866, and settled on a farm in this county, where he remained one year, then removed to Newark where he has since resided, and engaged in mercantile business. In 1881, he became Deputy for Postmaster Joseph G. Smith, and has since held that position. August 27, 1847, his marriage with Miss Mary E. Dotson, of Monroe County, Ohio, was solemnized, and to them have been born seven children—James W., George D., John (deceased), Seward, Clarence (deceased), Emma (Mrs. David D. Lyons) and Albert L. Mr. Drake is a Republican in politics, and he and family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He has been successful in business, owns a good farm of forty acres of well-improved land adjoining Newark, and a fine business property in the town. Mr. Drake is an old and honored citizen of Greene County, and he and family are respected by all who know them.
