His parents, Alexander and Nancy (Thompson) Gibson, were natives of the Emerald Isle, but emigrated to the United States about 1813, settling near Harrisburg, Penn., where they worked at the weaver's trade, having pursued this vocation in their native country. In 1820, they removed to Coshocton County, Ohio, where Mr. Gibson died in September, 1872. James Gibson was largely reared and educated in Ohio, where he was married on the 2d of November, 1837, to Miss Thorsa Hayse, daughter of Jeremiah and Nancy (Norris) Hayse, who removed from Virginia to Coshocton County, Ohio, at an early period in the history of that country. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson are the parents of an interesting family of thirteen children—John, Alexander, Nancy J., Delia M., William, Elizabeth E., Mahala C., Mary A., Harvey W., Margaret J., James L., Sarah M. and George F. Mr. Gibson is one of the prominent Republicans of Wright Township.
