Obituary of Mrs. Ursula E. Webb 1834 - 1907 Greene County IN Submitted by: Judi Burns e-mail: reibur@pwrtc.comr WEBB - - As a result of a stroke of apoplexy Mrs. Ursula E. Webb, one of the most estimable citizens of Greene county and one who had been a resident of this county more than half a century, was called to her reward last Friday evening at 8:10 o'clock, two hours after receiving the fatal stroke. Death occured at the house of, Mrs. john McLaughlin at Koleen. - - - She had been in declining health for the last few years, having Suffered two previous strokes of apoplexy, and for several months had been quite feeble. But on the day of her death she had been unusally bright and active and apparently felt better than she had for many weeks. She insisted on helping her daughter with the house work, and late in the afternoon she went into her room and sat down to cut some carpet rags. When supper was ready Mrs. McLaughlin called her but received no response. She hurried into the room to find her mother prostrate on the floor, and it was soon evident that the end was not far off. The children wer immediately summoned by 'phone, and two hours later the devoted mother had answered the call of the Master whose faithful follower she had been for more than three score years. - - - Her maiden name was Moore and she was born at Mooresfield, Ohio, February 3, 1834; died September 27, 1907; aged seventy-three years seven months and twenty-four days. - - - When she was only about six or eight months old her mother died; about a year later her father died; and a short time later two children of the family passed away leaving only herself and her brother William R. Moore, who survives her. - - - Fifty eight years ago she was united in marriage to Thomas Edington and about fifty-one years ago they came from Ohio to Indiana to make their home. To this union were born eight children, two dying in infancy. The others are still living and mourn the loss of a kind and noble mother, The surviving children are Leroy W. Edington, of Midland; Mrs. John McLaughlin of Koleen; Sheriff William W. Edington; Mrs. William H. Mansfield and Elijah W. Edington of Bloomfield; and Thomas L. Edington of Koleen. Four of her children were at her bedside when she passed away, and all were present at the funeral. - - - She is also survivied by twenty-four grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren; all of whom, except four grandchildren and two great grandchildren attended the funeral. - - - Death robbed her of her companion January 13, 1874, and in 1883 she was united in marriage, this time to William Webb, who died about ten years ago. - - - Since childhood she had been a devoted christain and a loyal member of the M. E. Church. Her brother stated at the funeral that he distinctly remembered her first public testimony. It was at Stafford's church in Coshocton County, Ohio, when she said she expected to meet tempempation but prayed that she would bot be tempted above that she was able to bear. And her last public experssion of her love for the Savoir was at the "Old Folks" service here at the M. E. Church just the sunday before she passed away. - - - She was an excellant woman who seen lifetime of good works won for her the confidence and esteem of all with whom she associated. - - - Her only brother, William R. Moore of Kansas City, was here and in her company the last few weeks of her life, and they were happy in each other's presence. He came unexpectedly to her and to the other relatives, had finished his vist and everything was in readiness for him to start home on the train next morning when death summons came to his sister. - - - The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Walnut Grove church, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Ellis of Solsberry, in the presence of a large assemlage of relatives and friends and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place. - - - We take this means of expressing our deepest gratitude to our neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness and their expression of sympathy at the death of our mother. - The Edington Children.
