Hancock Co, IN Civil War Pension Application Submitted by:  Jan Rader   Bronco2671@aol.com Declaration for Pension State of Indiana, County of Hancock, ss: On this 30th day of August, A.D. 1918, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Joel Manning, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 76 years of age, and a resident of Greenefield R.R. 7, county of Hancock, State of Indiana; and that he is the identical person who was enrolled at Indianapolis, Indiana, under the name of (Private) Joel Manning, on the 10 day of August, 1862, as a Private, in Co. K 8th Reg. Indiana Vol. Inft. in the service of the United States, in the Cival [sp] war, and was honorably discharged at York, Pa., on the 24 day of May, 1865. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above.  That his personal description at enlistment was as follows:  Height, 5 feet, 7½ inches; complexion, light; color of eyes, blue; color of hair, light; that his occupation was Carpenter; that he was born 21st April, 1842, at Wayne Co., Ind. Gun shot wound in face and right eye causeing blindness in said eye and impairment of mind, neuralgia and vertigo on 19 day of Oct 1864, Shenandoah Valley, Va. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows:  Hancock Co. Indiana. That he is pensioner under certificate No. 98560.   That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of May 11, 1912.
