In a quite little cemetery in Harrison County, Indiana, about 4 miles from Corydon, lies Zachariah Kitterman and his wife Mary Catherine Poteet and many of their children and grandchildren. The name of the cemetery is Perseverance. In 1837 Zachariah donated a piece of ground for a Methodist Church. In Deed Book K Page 384, Dec. 6, 1837, Zachariah Kitterman and wife Mary, convey to the trustees the following piece of groung: A part of the North West Quarter of Section 30, Township 4, Range 4, beginning at the Southwest corner of said Kitterman's fourth part, containing one acre, with all the houses, woods and waterways, that they shall erect a house of worship. The church history recorded the church was made of logs and was located where the monument of Taylor Kitterman now stands. On Zachariah's tombstone it says he died 17 Jan. 1869 at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 17 days. Zachariah Kitterman born to Henry and Anna (Danner) Kitterman in Franklin county, Virginia, the eleventh child in order of birth. He was only ten years old when his father died and a young man of nineteen when the family decided to move to Harrison county, Indiana. February 20, 1825 he took as his wife, the widow Mrs. Mary Catharine (Patrick) Bird. Mary Catharine was the daughter of Mary Rice and Mr. Whitecar/Whitacar and born in Ohio county, Ky. When she was seven years old, her mother married Jacob Poteet and Mary took Poteet as a last name. Mary married Patrick Bird and they had a daughter Eliza and Patrick died. Zachariah and Mary Kitterman had eleven children; James Samuel, married Hanna Marsh, Eliza Hart and Rachel Clark; Mary Ann, married George Shuck and John Marsh; Judith Ann, married James Cline; Rebecca married Charles Smith; William Rice, married Louisa Rowe; Alfred Poteet married Elizabeth Rowe; John Wesley married Sarah Ellen Smith; Clorinda Catherine married William Smith; Thomas Henry, married Sarah C. Hedges and Malinda Hedges; Zachariah Taylor, married Matilda Williams and Sarah A., married Wilford T.
