WILL DEAN, Nathan, DEAN     LANGFORD     MACKENZIE     BYRN     CLIPP          HETH     HON     MCKINZEE   Will of Nathan DEAN, Harrison County, Indiana 23 JAN 1837 I Nathan Dean of Harrison County and State of Indiana do make  and publish this my last will and testament Thereby revorking and making void all formal wills by me at any time heretofore made. First I direct that my body be decently interred my funeral expense (expense deleted) be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estae and citiation in life. And as to such estate as it has pleased God to intrust me with I dispose of the same in the following manner to wit: I direct first that my funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my executors from any portion of my estate. I also give and bequeath to my beloved wife Polly all my household furniture of every description, together with all my corn and meat that may belong to me at my decease, for her own private use and bought independant of her lawful third part of the residue of my personal estate. I further give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Daniel Dean the Sum of three hundred dollars in money out of the proceeds of my estate to be, by my Executors, put at interest, at the best percent that they may be able to receive, until to the said Daniel shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years, provided that he should live to that age, and provided also that if he should not live to that age, then, and in that case, I direct that the aforesaid sum, fill with the enterest be, by my Executors, paid to each of my heirs (heirs crossed out) surviving heirs in equal shares. I further give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Elizabeth Dean the sum of one hundred dollars out of the proceeds of my Estate, to be, by my executors, paid to her when she arrives to the the full age of eighteen years, and further that the aforesaid share of one hundred dollars is not to be considered as any part of her lawfulright as one of my heirs at law, but that my executors consider her intitled to her equal part in all the ballance of my estate with the rest of the heirs Exclusive of this said hundred dollars. And I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Nancy Langford one acre of land on which she now resides to be as ---at --hundred dollars and be it understood by my executors, as her full share of my estate the same having been, by me, deeded to her in advance before this division amonst the ballance of my heirs, and I further direct my executors that after my wife has received her lawful dues in my estate agreeabley to the foregoing will, that the balance of my estate be by them equally divided between my four children to wit: Polly McKinzay, Daniel Dean, Summer Dean and Elizabeth Dean, and to effect this my intention I hereby vest my executors with full power and authority to dispose of any part of my estate which may remain in their hands, after the decease of my wife should she outlive such. And I do hereby make and ordain my worthie son-in-law John McKinzy and my beloved son Daniel Dean Executors of this my last will and testament. Heth Clerk of the Probate Court of the County aforesaid, to make oath that the within named Nathan Dean, in their presence, Signed, Sealed, publish and declared the written instrument of writing be his last will and testament for the purposes as are contained and that the said Nathan Dean was at the time of signing and acknowledging the same of sound mind memory and understanding. George H Hon Final Settlement John McKinzie and Daniel Dean, co-executors 2 May 1838 Total value of estate: $1,762.66 ¼ Heirs: Elizabeth Dean received her $100 special bequest. In addition, she and the other children, Summers, Daniel, & John McKinzee (husband of Polly) each received $202.22. The widow, Polly Dean, received $286.94. After the other debts against the estate were paid, $338.90 was left for the grandson, Daniel, son of Thomas Dean. (The $300 bequest plus interest accrued as of this date.)
