Eight children--Nancy, Mary, Henry, Sibyl, Alice, Laura, Jehu and Jerusha. Mrs. Hadley's father, Jeremiah Stiles, founder of Stilesville in 1836, was one of the first settlers of Franklin Township, coming here in 1823. Hr. Hadley has been engaged in active business all his life, and is remarkable as an enterprising, energetic, industrious and thorough business man. In 1831, he bought and drove away the first lot of hogs ever taken from Hendricks Co., to market. Has traded considerably in real estate, etc. Out of a tract of land on which everybody pronounced it impossible to make a living, he has made the model farm of Hendricks Co. he built a large levee along the stream, dug the dirt from the higher end with it filled the lower ground, and thus has reclaimed it all. He has fitted up a fine park with amphitheater and every comfort and convenience for the accommodation of all who come to the annual meeting of the Old Settlers. Mr. Hadley has a way peculiar to himself of dealing with men. He never takes a written obligation from a debtor, never sues him, or duns him but once; if he will not then fulfill his promise, Mr. H. simply will not allow him to owe him any more. Mr. and Mrs. Hadley are still in the enjoyment of good health, which their friends are confident will never be impaired by lack of exercise. HIBBS, ASENA, Mrs., P.O.
