ADAMS, HUGH F., P.O. Lizton; Blacksmith; settled here April, 1867; born in Ross Co., 
Buckskin Tp., Ohio, Feb 20, 1851; son of Thomas, b. April 21, 1803, d. Oct. 2, 1871, and 
Hannah Kilgore, b. Nov. 21, 1806.  Hugh F. was married July 2, 1874, to Rebecca A. 
Vieley, b. May 29, 1855; one child--Claude V., b. Nov. 6, 1875.  Mrs. Adams' father, 
Jesse Vieley, was born Oct. 24, 1819, in Hamilton Co., Ohio; came to this township 
1831; married Dec. 12, 1843, to Elizabeth F. Leak, b. Bracken Co., Ky., Oct. 15, 1827.

ARMSTRONG, JOHN W., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, born in Woodford Co., Ky., July 28, 
1833; settledd in this county 1859; son of William B. Armstrong and Isreda Howard.  
Married Aug. 9, 1860, to Susan Singer; two children--Edna, born May 28, 1861, and 
Susie, b. Aug. 10, 1862.  Mr. Armstrong enlisted in 1862, and served three years as a 
soldier; was in many hard-fought battles.  He is a consistent member of the Baptist 
Church.

BENSON, MARTIN K., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 8; settled in this county March 2, 
1872; born in Pendleton Co., Ky., Dec. 1, 1836, son of John H. and Mary Benson.  
Married Aug. 30, 1871, to Lydia c. Byerly (married by Elder Samuel D. Harland); two 
children--Pearl, b. Jan. 24, 1873, and Ida, March 1, 1875.

BLAKE, ROBERT W., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 30; born in Stokes Co., N.C., Dec. 8, 
1824; son of John Blake, b. May 5, 1790, d. April 26, 1857, and Elizabeth Goslen, b. 
Aug. 28, 1803, who settled in this county 1849.  Married May 21, 1854, to Sarah F. 
Spears, b. May 29, 1830, d. June 1, 1867; married again, to Lottie Harbert, b. June 2, 
1838; two children by each wife--Benjamin, b. April 12, 1855; Narcissa M., b. Aug. 16, 
1837; Willimette, b. May 2, 1869, and George B., b. Aug 30, 1870.

BUZZARD, WILLIAM B. (deceased Nov. 10, 1871); born in Frederick Co., Va., May 
28, 1824; son of David S., b. April 16, 1796, d. Feb. 8, 1870, and Louisa Baker, b. Dec. 
2, 1800, d. March 9, 1869; settled in this county 1836.  Married Jan. 11, 1849, to Mary, 
daughter of Clayborn and Elizabeth Davidson; seven children--Emeline, b. March 4, 
1850; Amanda C., Jan. 9, 1852; Eunice A., July 29, 1853; Mary E., b. March 7, 1855; 
Susan A., April 5, 1859; Lydia J., April 14, 1862, and Arthur E., March 13, 1870, d. Aug. 
11, 1870.  Mr. B. was a blacksmith by trade.  Received from his father's estate the farm 
where he raised his family; he was held in high esteem by all his neighbors and friends.

8, 1832; son of Jonathan E., b. Feb 2, 1801, d. Jan. 4, 1875, and Christina Coombs, b. 
Nov. 20, 1806, who settled in this county 1837.  Married March 14, 1854, to Melinda, 
daughter of John T. and Hannah Arnold; seven children--George W., b. Jan. 21, 1854; 
John E., b. March 30, 1856; Mary E. J., Sept. 29, 1858; Sarah H., b. March 30, 1859, d. 
March 11, 1877; Catherine E., b. Sept. 22, 1862, d. May 12, 1874, E. M., Jan. 22, 1864; 
Charlie, April 23, 1869.

FOWLER, STEPHEN, P.O. Rainstown; Merchant; settled here 1861; born in Bradford, 
Yorkshire, Eng., Feb. 7, 1836; son of Robert Fowler, b. 1794, and Mary Whitaker 
(parents still in England).  Married in England Sept. 12, 1853, to Sarah Wise; married 
again in Indianapolis, April 12, 1876, to J.E. Lincoln; six children--Cora A., b. Aug 30, 
1857; Alfred, b. Aug. 13, 1860; Robert Percy, Nov. 19, 1862; Louisa, Sept. 12, 1864; 
Margaret, July 26, 1866; John Wise, May 17, 1868.

GILBRAITH, WILLIAM, P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 28; settled in this county in 1863; 
born in Henry Co., Ky., March 19, 1825; son of William, born 1798, d. Aug. 1853, and 
Mary Gilbraith, b. 1794, d. Nov. 15, 1875.  Married Feb. 14, 1847 to Nancy, daughter of 
John G. and Emily Barnett; one child--John M., born Jan., 1866.

HADLEY, JOB, P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 15; born in Chatham Co., N.C., 2 9, 1816; son 
of Joshua Hadley and Rebecca Hinshaw.  Married 9, 22, 1841, to Hannah Draper, who 
died 12 20, 1844.  Married again 2 19, 1846, in Ohio, to Miss T. Burgess.  Four children-
-Silas, died 3 14, 1844, aged 6 months and 4 days; Martha, Ezra and Cyrus, all died in 
infancy, from 6 weeks to 9 months old; he came to this county in 1839 and followed 
teaching and surveying, afterward settling upon some land in the timber; has been elected 
County Surveyor two terms, and has original copies of surveys all through the township; 
has a farm of 292 acres, which he has thoroughly drained; was the first person to teach a 
colored school west of the mountains.

HEDGE, GEORGE W., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 6; born in this county March 24, 1847; 
son of David and Keturah Hedge, who settled in this county in 1829.  Married Dec. 14, 
1869, to Mattie J. Davis, b. May 28, 1843.  Three children--Homer V., b. Nov 11, 1871; 
Jesse D., May 6, 1875, d. Sept. 15, 1876, and Clifford, b. Feb 17, 1878.

HOCKER, BENJAMIN D., MRS., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 31; Mr. Hocker went to 
California in 1858, and never returned; his fate is unknown; he was born in Lincoln Co., 
Ky., July 8, 1816; son of Philip L. and Sarah Hocker.  Was married May 16, 1844, to 
Jane W., daughter of John and Mary Ramsey; eight children--Sarah M., b. April 10, 
1845; Philip L., Aug. 15, 1846; John T., May 22, 1848; William A., Dec. 13, 1848, D. 
June 23, 1862; Mary R., Oct. 18, 1852; Nancy J., b. Dec. 7, 1854; Lorena E., May 15, 
1856, and Benjamin D., b. Sept. 6, 1858.

HUNT, WILIAM, P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 5; settled in this county Oct. 17, 1851; born 
in Mason Co., Ky., April 12, 1818; son of John Hunt and Nancy Chandler.  Married July 
17, 1847, and first wife died Aug. 5, 1863.  Married again, March 19, 1868, to Mrs. 
Mahala R. Myers; children--John W., b. Oct. 14, 1849; Joseph, April 10, 1851; Sarah, 
April 4, 1854; Charles T., Nov. 13, 1855; James B., Feb. 22, 1857; Henry W., Dec. 9, 
1859; Napoleon B., Feb. 16, 1870; Ira B., Oct. 28, 1873.  Mahala R. Hunt was the wife of 
Elias Myers, who died April 28, 1863, leaving four children, two still living--John B., b. 
July 16, 1857, and Louisa J., b. Jan. 1, 1859.

JOHNSON, OSCAR B., M.D., P.O. Lizton; born at West Chester, Butler Co., Ohio, July 
4, 1848; son of Jesse R. Johnson, b. 1815, d. 1873, and Mary Wheat, b. 1816; settled on 
Sec. 18, 1864.  Married March 24, 1873, to Lizzie F. Cundiff, b. May 7, 1854.

KENDALL, JACOB H., P.O. Lizton; Merchant; born in this county May 30, 1833; son of 
James and Mary Kendall, who settled in this county in 1832.  Married Feb. 14, 1856, to 
Margaret, daughter of Daniel and Martha Dickey.  Three children--John L., b. May 12, 
1857; Gertrude, May 28, 1870, and Rachel C., Feb. 12, 1872.

LEACH, WILLIAM, P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 16; born in this county Sept. 8, 1836; son 
of Anderson Leach and Matilda Montgomery.  Married May 13, 1860, to Rachel Baker; 
eight children--John S., born April 4, 1861; Sarah J., Jan. 3, 1863; Martha A., Aug. 7, 
1864; James E., Feb. 8, 1866; Charles D., Nov. 13, 1868; Mary M., Feb. 4, 1871; Rachel 
F., Aug. 24, 1872; Susan O., Nov. 20, 1874, and William M., Nov. 20, 1876.

LEAK, HENRY B., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 16; born in this county Jan. 16, 1842; son 
of James L. Leak and Amanda Buzzard; settled in this county in 1834.  Henry B. was 
married Oct. 27, 1867, to Sarah E. Thompson; two children--Ora E., b. July 20, 1868, and 
Iza A., b. July 20, 1870.

LEAK, LELAND, P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 21; settled here in 1834; born May 3, 1813, 
in Bracken Co., Ky., son of James Leak and Elizabeth Vermilion.  Married Jan. 6, 1839, 
to Minerva, daughter of John D. and Sarah Fear; two children--Sarah E., born Oct. 21, 
1839, and John J., b. Sept. 27, 1841.  Adopted and raised from infancy Darius A. 
Runnels.  He came here as one of the first settlers, and after going through the privations 
and hard labor incident to the life of a pioneer, he has become quite wealthy, and retired 
to reap the benefit of his labor.

LUDLOW, JIMISON, P.O. Rainstown; Farmer, Sec. 3; born in Kentucky, June 22, 1828; 
settled in this county in 1873; son of Nathaniel, b. in 1802, d. June 12, 1874, and Rebecca 
Ludlow, b. in 1804, d. Oct. 17, 1876.  Married Oct. 29, 1849, to Mary A., daughter of 
John and Cecilia Ratliff; children--Cecilia J., b. Aug. 13, 1850, d. June, 1861; Candy, b. 
Nov. 12, 1851; John W., March 5, 1853; Ashley, Aug. 29, 1855, d. June 4, 1856; Mary 
E., b. July 9, 1857; Matilda A., Aug. 18, 1859; Leha A., Sept. 4, 1861; Tipton H., Feb. 5, 
1864; Polly, Feb. 23, 1866; Levi N., May 19, 1868; Rosa M., Oct. 17, 1871.

MONTGOMERY, WILLIAM G., P.O. Lizton; deceased; born in this county May 6, 
1840, d. June 5, 1875; son of James and Rebecca Thorp-Montgomery.  Married August

Pinnell (deceased), again, in 1875, to Sallie Sauders; three children by first wife, and one 
by second--Effie, b. April 15, 1869; Henry C., b. June 10, 1871; John R., b. March 12,

1848; son of William Walter, b. Dec. 1809, and Caroline Reynolds.  Married April 18, 
1872, to Virginia, daughter of Fleming and Mary Dickerson.

WHEAT, G.W., P.O. Lizton; Farmer, Sec. 28; settled in this county in 1862; born in 
Warren Co., O., March 27, 1823; son of James, b. in 1774, d. Aug 10, 1852, and Mary 
Tibles, d. in 1842, at the age of 59 years.  G.W. was married Oct. 16, 1844, to Mary E., 
daughter of George and Alice Dorsey.  Married again, Oct. 16, 1862, to Euphemia 
Davidson.  Four children by first wife, two by second--Hannah, b. Oct. 18, 1845; Grant, 
Feb. 21, 1848; Sarah F., March 31, 1850, d. Sept. 8, 1874; James P., b. Sept. 27, 1852;

in Marion Co., Ind., Dec. 14, 1857; son of Hiram Wright and Mary A. Hoover.  Married
