The boy's grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Rush, his two sisters, Helen 9 and Alethia, 11, and two neighbor children Dorothy and Marie Ainers. 7 and 8 years of age, were with the drowned boy at the woods. The mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Pearl J. Parker and an older brother, Vincent, 14, had been fishing along the creek and had arrived at the woods and had a short swim. Mrs. Parker called to her two daughters and to Eddie to come out of a boat anchored in the shallow creek bed where they had been playing and get ready to go home. Eddie was nowhere to be found and that was the first indication any of the party had that the youth had drowned. The father, thinking the little boy had run along the banks to the bathing beach where he could watch the swimmers, ran there but failed to find Eddie. He told a number of the swimmers that he believed his boy had drowned In the shallow water andseveral of them went to the creek near the boat. One youth reached into the water and brought the body to the surface from less than two feet of water. The youth's name was not learned in the excitement. While awaiting for the arrival of a doctor, the father and Joseph Golightly worked all the water out of Eddie's lungs and attempted artificial respiration. Dr. W. H Harrison arrived on the scene and assisted in artificial respiration for more than an hour. Several of the swimmers also helped but all efforts were in vain. The body was taken In charge by Kenneth Rich, undertaker, and prepared for burial. While the parents and the older brother were fishing, the, grandmother took the five children to the woods so that they might wade. They went to the shallow creek. Soon the children discovered a boat anchored to the shore. The five got into it and were dabbling in the water over the boat's edge. Whether Eddie, reaching for something in the water, toppled over the edge or whether the boat was swerved throwing him over could not be determined. Neither of the four children missed Eddie until Mrs. Parker called them to get ready to go home. The father said the little boywas exceptionally afraid, of the water. He said he bad been, making a strong effort to accustom the lad to water and had succeeded very slowly. He voiced the opinion that the lad was so frightened when he fell into the water that he gulped his lungs full immediately and sank to the bottom. The father, mother, grandmother, two sisters, two brothers, Vincent who was at the woods, and Jackie, are the survivors. Funeral services will be conducted at the home, 1111 East Monroe street, Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 o'clock Burial will be made In the Randolph cemetery, Tipton county.
