Howard Co, IN Civil War Pension Application Submitted by:  Jan Rader    BluGinhm@aol.com Declaration for Invalid Pension Act of June 27, 1890 State of Indiana, County of Howard, ss: On the 18 day of January, A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety-two, personally appeared before me, Clerk of Circuit Court, in and for the County and State aforesaid, Alexander Brass, aged 57 years, a resident of the City of Kokomo, County of Howard, State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Alexander Brass, who was enrolled on the 25 day of April, 1861, in Co. E, 13 Reg’t of Ind. Vol. Inft., afterwards _________, in the war of the Rebellion, and served at least ninety days and was Honorably Discharged at Goldsboro, S.C., on the 5 day of Sept., 1865. That he is unable to earn a support by reason of Loss of the right eye with deformity.  Also a general breaking down of the physical condition from general exposure, hard service and hard work. Dec. 2, ’84, a small piece of stone struck the right eye putting it out.  I am a laborer and work in a stone quarry. That said disabilities are not due to his vicious habits, and are to the best of his knowledge and belief permanent; that he has not applied for pension….that he has not been in the military or naval service of the U.S. since Sept 5, 1865. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the provisions of the act of June 27, 1890. He hereby appoints J. H. Kroh, of Kokomo, Indiana, his true and lawful attorney to prosecute his claim; it is hereby agreed between this claimant and his attorney that said attorney shall be allowed a fee of $10.00 for prosecuting this claim; that his post office address is Kokomo, County of Howard, State of Indiana. Viney, a Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid, Alexander Brass, a resident of the City of Kokomo, County of Howard, State of Indiana, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Alexander Brass, who was enrolled on the 25th day of April, 1861, in Co. E, 13th Regt. Indiana Vols. in the service of the United States, in the Civil War, and served at least 90 days, and was honorably discharged at Folly Island, S.C., on the 20th day of December, 1863. That he has been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above: Reinlisted Dec 14th, 1863 in Co. E, 13th Regt. Ind. Vols. And Discharged Sept. 15th, 1865.  That he is 72 years of age, having been born on the 13 day of June, 1834, and asks for a pension of $15.00 per month.  That he is a pensioner under Certificate No. 802594.  That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the act of February 6, 1907.
