Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 22, 2008, 3:17 pm Huntington Herald-Press, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1935 Mrs. Alice Hurd, 70, a resident of this city since 1900, died at 4:10 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of her son, Cato B. Hurd, in Washington, D.C., of a cerebral hemorrhage. She had been at the son's home since September 1, this year. Her health had been failing since last April. Mrs. Hurd was born to William and Fanny Penny in Belmont, N.Y., June 13, 1865, and she was married to Budge H. Hurd March 16, 1892, in Parker, South Dakota. They moved to Huntington from South Dakota in 1900. Mr. Hurd died June 29, 1931. Surviving are four sons, Leland S. Hurd, Louisville, Ky., Cato B. Hurd, Washington, D.C., Gerald Hurd, Huntington, and Cecil J. Hurd, Huntington. Three grandchildren are Miss Alice E. Hurd, who lived with her grandmother here, Bonnie Mae and Leland, Jr., of Louisville. Mrs. Hurd was a member of the Methodist church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Missionary Societies and Ladies Aid of her church, and a charter member of the Eureka Circle. The body will be brought to this city, arriving Wednesday morning, through Fort Wayne, and will be taken to the W.R. Briggs funeral home on Poplar street where friends may call from 1 o"clock Wednesday afternoon until the funeral. The casket will not be opened at the church. The Order of Eastern Star will hold twilight services at the Briggs funeral home Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church with Dr. W. Henry McLean officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope cemetery.
