Jackson County Indiana news The Brownstown Banner-Wednesday-April 2nd, 1913 (The main news was about extensive flooding of the White River) UNIONTOWN Vernon Township Last Friday afternoon, March 29th, the Death Angel visited the home of Mr. W.H. LEIGH and took his beloved wife. Mrs. Leigh was a highly respected lady and a good kind neighbor. She leaves, husband, sister and two nieces to mourn, besides a large number of friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. J. G. MOORE, of Crothersville. DEATH RECORD List of Deaths not Mentioned by Correspondents. ZIRKLE-Mrs. D.A. KOCHENOUR received a telegram last week informing her of the death of her sister, Mrs. Sallie (Kagy) Zirkle, of Shenandoah county, Virginia, from paralysis. Mr. Zirkle, before her marriage, resided in Brownstown several years with her sister, Mrs. Kochenour. She taught school at Ratcliff Grove and Bohall in this township and also one winter in Redding township. She leaves a husband and three children, two daughters and one son, all of whom are over twenty-one years of age, surviving her. She was an estimable Christian lady and greatly beloved by all who knew her. The funeral was on Thursday last, from the M.E. church at New Market, Virginia. The relatives have the sympathy of many Brownstown friends. LAFKIN-William Lafkin, a highly respected citizen, died at his home at Rockford Thursday, March 26, 1913, after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. Deceased was born August 9, 1850, and has spent most of his life in Jackson county. He is survived by three sons and one daughter, viz; J.E., Fred and Wm. Lafkin, Jr., and Mrs. Mary PERSINGER. The funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon by Eld. G. M. SHUTTS. SPURGEON-Nellie B. Spurgeon, wife of Wm. Fred Spurgeon, died at her home at Tampico Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, after a lingering illness of tuberculosis, aged 33 years, 11 months and 23 days. Besides her husband she is survived by five children. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church at Tampico this morning, after which the remains were taken to Salem for burial. SIMMONS-Francis Simmons died at his home at Acme, Hamilton township, Wednesday, March 26, 1913, after a short illness of spinal meningitis, aged about 21 years. The funeral services were conducted Sunday and the remains were interred in the Cortland cemetery. HINNEFELD-HACKMAN The church at Wegan was the scene of a pretty wedding Sunday morning when Edward Hinnefeld and Miss Matilda Hackman were united in marriage. The groom is the eldest son of Herman Hinnefeld and wife and the bride is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Mary Hackman. Both are highly respected and popular young people. Misses Ida and Martha Hinnefeld were bride's maids and Martin Hackman and Clarence SHOEMAKER acted as best men. The bride was dressed in white with a pretty veil and carried a bouquet of bridal roses. The groom wore a neat blue serge suit. A bounteous dinner was served after the ceremony at the bride's home of which a large number of guests partook. We join their many friends in extending hearty congratulations. ZELMA ZEPHYRS. SHARR, of Freetown, to Anna B. LOCKHART, of Brownstown township. COURT NEWS Katheryn G. DIXON vs. Albert DIXON; plaintiff granted divorce and given custody of three year old son. New Cases Edith DURHAM vs. Herbert W. DURHAM; divorce and alimony. The parties were married June 12, 1902, and separated March 31, 1913. Cruel treatment is alleged as cause for divorce.
