Jemima, the youngest child of David & Sarah Cummings, was born in Lawrence Co, Feb 18, 1830. When a child she moved with her parents to Arkansas, and after living there a few years, they came to this county. In 1845 she married Thomas Pruitt. They first located on the farm where James Helms now lives, in Brown County. They afterwards lived in Huston and Elkinsville. About 1860 they moved onto their farm 2 miles north of Houston, where they had since resided. When the war broke out, her husband enlisted. During his absence, she managed the farm and took care of her 5 small children. Her remains were interred in the Lutes cemetery. She leaves a husband and 8 children, 6 daughters and 2 sons – 1 son and 1 daughter are not married.
