Obituary of John. E. R. Thompson from the Seymour Democrat; date of death 22 
Aug 1901

 

488. THOMPSON, John E. R. --- John E. R. Thompson d. at his home one mile west 
of Houston, Aug. 22, aged 73 years. Deceased was the oldest of 12 children b. 
to Andrew & Elizabeth Thompson, in Law. Co., Feb 4, 1828. He m. Sarah Winkler, 
Aug. 20, 1846, who d. May 2, 1880. To this union 11 children were born, 6 of 
whom are living, viz: Mrs. Hendry, Mrs. Ester Tabor, Mrs. Emma Clark, Wm., 
Scott & John. Mrs. Clark, Scott & John live in the far west. Forty 
grandchildren & 18 great-grandchildren also survive. Deceased 2m. Nancy 
Tatlock, Nov. 6, 1881, who survives. Five bros. & 1 sis. attended the funeral, 
viz: James, C.W., Andrew, Asbury, Daily & Tabitha Acton. (Aug. 28—B)  Houston 
news – John E. R. Thompson d. Thurs., at his home 2 miles west of here. Twelve 
children were born to his first marriage, 6 of whom survive. Two sons, John & 
Scott, live in Missouri. The remains were laid to rest in the Houston cem., 
Friday. (also) Wm. Thompson & wife & son Lute, of Heltonville, came up to the 
funeral of the former’s father, last week. (also) Az Thompson, of Scottsburg, 
came to the funeral of his brother, Friday. (Wed., Aug. 28---D)
