W. and Mary E. Thompson, was born at Houston, Ind., Jan 20, 1860; died at Madison Jan 17, 1917, aged 58 years, 11 months and 17 days. He was well known in this county having taught school in many parts. He was formerly a Mason and a Knight of Pythias. He united with the M.E. church at Spraytown when a young man while teaching school there and was a member at Houston at the time of his death. During the latter years of his active life he was engaged in the monument business in which he displayed an unusual ability in drafting designs of his work. The beginning of his breakdown is traced to the strain of drafting the Vincennes Soldiers’ monument. For the past two years he has been suffering from a general paralynl [sic] which affected his mind and body and culminated in his death. His remains were brought to the home of his mother Thursday. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Friday morning conducted by the pastor, Rev. Proctor. Burial in the Houston cemetery by the side of his father. Besides the mother he leaves three brothers, viz: H.F. of this place, Charles L, of Nashville, Tenn, and D.W., of Brownstown. Two sisters, Mrs. Rosetta Lutes and Mrs. Tessie Bowman, preceded him in death.
