Charles, was received with sorrow. Alexander James Dallas Thurston was born at Aurora, New York, June 19, 1820. He was educated for the profession of law and practiced for a time at Mount Clemens, Michigan, but not liking it in 1844 he became a surveyor and civil engineer, and was employed by the government in surveying the public lands in northern Michigan. In 1845 he went to Nashville, Tennessee. He was married June 1, 1852, to Sallie W. McClain, of Green Hill, Tennessee. Five children, three sons, and two daughters were born to this union. The sons are all dead; the daughters, Mrs. Wallace Wright lives at Mexico, Mo., and Mrs. Weigert lives at Rector, Arkansas. The wife of Col. Thurston died in 1874. Interment in Riverview. Brownstown Banner: Col. A. J. Thurston died Nov. 9. He served in the Confederate army in the civil War, and was colonel of a regiment under Stonewall Jackson. He located at Seymour in 1878.
