Witnesseth that the said Hurlbutt and wife for and in consideration of the sum of five thousand and five hundred dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand will truely paid by the said James Woods the receipt whereof is hereby acknow- ledged have granted,bargained,sold,aliened,released,conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant,bargain,sell,alien,re- lease,convey and confirm unto the said James Woods his heirs and assigns forever- The following pieces or parcels of land lying and being in the County of Jefferson and State of Indiana. Towit, The southeast quarter of Section sixteen,Township two,(North of the base line) in Range ten (East of the second principal meredian) of the lands directed to be sold at Jeffersonville. Also fifteen acres of land described as follows. Towit,Beginning at the south- west corner of fraction No.seven, Township two,Range ten and run- ning East to the Ohio river thence up the Ohio river eighty poles, then west to the said fraction lines thence south to the begining corner. Also the following described tract of Land bounded as fol- lows viz,Beginning on the Band of the Ohio river in the Center of Main Street in the town of New London in the County aforesaid, thence west 84 1/2 degrees,south to the angle formed by Crossing the line of lands belonging to the heirs of Adam McCormick and of the Nicholsons heirs thence south with Nicholsons line to the corn- ers of Nicholsons and Barns land, south 6 degrees east thirty eight poles and nine -----, thence East with Barnes line to his southeast corner, 83 1/4 degrees, east one hundred and sixty one poles, thence south with said Barns line till it crosses a deep gully 5 1/2 degrees east 81.8 poles, thence with said gully to the Ohio river, thence with the Bank of theOhio river north 2 1/4 degrees west, one hundred and twenty eight and one half poles to the place of begin- ning. Containing seventy eight acres and sixty two poles be the same more or less. Excepting out of the above from the upper corner one the band of the River, thirty three acres in a square block which thirty three acres included six acres now owned by and hertofore deeded to Byram Barnett by John Woodburn, and all the estate right, title,interest,claim and demand of the said Lewis Hurlbutt and his wife of as and to the premises and every part thereof togetheer with all and giving also the privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any new appertaining and the rents issues and profits thereof to have and to hold the premises hereby bargained and sold or intended to be with the appurtenance to the only proper use. And the said Lewis Hurlbutt and Ann his wife their heirs executors and administrators do convenant promise and agree to with the said James Woods his heirs,executors,administrators and assigns that they are the true and lawful owners of the premises here by granted and have good right full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same in manner and fore aforesaid. And further that they the said Lewis Hurbutt and Ann his wife their heirs,executors, administrators will warrent and forever defend the aforesaid premises with their appurtenanceses and every part and parcel thereof unto the said James Woods his heirs and assigns against all person claiming and to claim by form or render them or any of them or by form or render any other person or persons whom- ever--In witness where of the said Lewis Hurlbut together with Ann Hurbut wife of the said Lewis Hurbut who hereby freely re- linquishes all rights and claim of dower in and to the premises have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written-- Lewis Hurbut seal Ann Hurlbut seal Signed,Sealed and Delivered in the Presence of Jno H.Taylor John J.Cross **** State of Indiana,Jefferson County SS. Before me John J.Cross a Justice of the peace within and for said county personally appeared Lewis Hurlbut the above named grantor together with Ann Hurlbut the wife of said Lewis Hurlbut and ack- nowledged the above deed of conveyance to be their volunatry act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. And the said Ann Hurlbut wife of the said Lewis Hurlbut being by me examined separate and apart from her husband and the contens of said deed being brought by me fully read and explained to her she did de- clare to me that she did voluntarily and of her own free will and accord and as her husband did sign seal and deliver the said deed of conveyance to the said James Woods with out coersion or compulsion from her husband given under my hand and seal this sixteenth day of June and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven.
