Indiana Vol. Infantry "1st Irish We were born and raised in Vincennes, Indiana at 1029 North 14th. st., My name is Pat and my Sister's name is Betty , We are the only two Grandaughters not Great-Great-granddaughters but Grandaughters that is still living . Our Dad was born in 1880 and he was the Son of Converse Bacon Pierce. Our Mother Helen Bernice Banks was 34 years younger then Dad. Our Grandfater was in the Civil war. He's buried in Sandborn,Indiana. He was in Company K the only First Irish regiment. They issued the standard Army issue uniform of the period.The only exception was the issue of a Emerald Green Kepi to set them apart from other military units. Converse's unit numbers is 586 586 He was Rank in Pvt. and Rank out Pvt. Served in the Union. Converse was 29 when he went to War. He was a Farmer living in Franklin Co. Indiana and was married to Mary Jane Warner in 1858. He enlisted in Greensburgh Indiana. And in Nashville,Tenn. By Order of the War Department,June the 16th, 1865 Discharged, Muster-out Roll Indianapolis,Indiana on Sept.20 1865. Additional Comments: My Sister and I would love to see a monument or a plaque in Sandborn to honor all the Veterans buried there. We go to the graves and play Taps, all kinds of service music for them. We have a sort of concert in Vincennes and Sandborn Cememteries. Every Memorial Day. Songs they listened to in the Civil war and there Era. We just know they hear it. and love it. Thank you. Pat and Betty.
