All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/in/infiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com April 28, 2009, 3:44 pm Pension Application Of Allen Ramsey, Application #S32467 State of Illinois, Wabash County} “On this 3rd day of December 1833, personally appeared in open court before the County Commissioners Court of said county, now sitting, Allen Ramsey, a resident of said county of Wabash and state of Illinois, aged 69 years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress passed June 7th, 1832: “That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers, and served as herein stated: That he entered the service as a substitute for Joshua Thompson on or about the 1st of July in the year 1780 in Capt. William Bruce’s company in Washington County and state of Pennsylvania, and was attached to Col. Gabriel Cox’s regiment, marched to Pittsburgh, from thence down the Ohio River to the mouth of Muskingum, from there to the mouth of Kinnawha, where he was discharged after having served two months as a private.” “On the 1st of June 1781 he was drafted and marched to a station at Lagstown on the Ohio River at Grove Creek in Capt. John Wall’s company. Served three months as a private, and was discharged.” “Again in 1782, he was drafted and marched in Capt. Murray’s [or Mum’s] company, to which he was attached under Col. Crawford’s to the Sandusky Towns, and there he was engaged in a battle with the Indians and British and was defeated and lost about 300 men. In this expedition he served two months as a private, at this period, and was discharged, but received no written discharge for either tour, to the best of his recollection.” “He was born in Hanford County in the state of Maryland on the 12th day of June in the year 1764. The record of his birth is at his place of residence, taken from the record in his father’s family Bible. That his mother moved from Maryland to Washington County, PA where he resided until the year 1784, when he, this affiant, moved to Post Vincent (now Vincennes) in the state of Indiana. In the year 1792, he was taken prisoner by the Pottawattamie Indians and had about $200 worth of property taken and destroyed by them. Since the year 1784, he has lived in Indiana, until the last 14 years he has lived in Wabash County in the state of Illinois.
