Mahns, 37, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, a Houston, Texas resident, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 1994 in Houston. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Mahns of Cedar Lake; sister, nephew; maternal grandmother, Josephine Nackman of Hammond; also by many aunts, uncles and cousins; and many close friends in Houston. He was preceded in death by his father Don Mahns, sister and nephew, Kim and Craig Mezei and grandmother, Elvera Keilman. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 13, 1994, 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Chapel 8303 Taft St., Merrillvill, Indiana with Rev. Unavailable officiating. Mr. Mahns was a graduate of Donald E. Gavit High School and Indiana State University. Richard was a special education teacher of severe/profoundly disturbed children. He taught at Concord and Burrus Elementary Schools in Houston and was also employed at the Houston Grand Opera. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Association for Retareded Children or the March of Dimes. A loving, kind and caring man, he will be missed by all.
