Lake Co., IN Obit Newspaper- unknown Date- unknown                    Mrs. Roper Dies; Long in Hobart Mrs. Ella Roper, 89, a long-time Hobart resident, died in Mercy Hospital this morning following a short illness. Mrs. Roper had moved to Hobart about 80 years ago.  After her husband's death, she carried on the family business at the Smith and Roper Mill, which was originally owned by her father, Dorman A. Smith.  She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Hobart.  She lived at 148 C. Connecticut St. While residing in Gary for several years, Mrs. Roper became interested in the building of Methodist Hospital and donated a room to it.  She was later a member of the board of directors of the hospital. Mrs. Roper was one of the property owners and promoters of Park Manoro, which later became Glen Park. She is survived by one son, Owen J., who was mayor of Hobart from 1930 to 1934.  Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. R.R. Peddicord, of Hobart, and Mrs. James C. Carter, of Indianapolis, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Pflughoeft Funeral Home, Hobart, pending completion of arrangements.
