The body of Justice was picked up and taken to Alexandria, being later taken to his home two miles from Reed’s Station. Statements of the trainmen indicate that Justice could not have heard the approaching train and drove on the tracks immediately in front of the engine. At the time he was driving an empty wood wagon. The wagon was demolished and both horses killed. At the point where the accident occurred the wagon parallels the steam road, the crossing being diagonal and on approaching one driving along the road suddenly comes out on the railroad from behind trees and buildings. It is thought that the rattle of the moving wagon prevent the unfortunate man from hearing the sound of the approaching train that that he drove to his death for this reason. When picked up by the train crew he had ceased to breathe, the side of his head having been crushed in. Other than this would there was no indications of injury. Morton Justice was a substantial farmer residing two miles from Reed’s Station and was 35 years of age. He leaves a wife and one child.
