Wolf HISTORY OF PINER CEMETERY This information is based upon research of my Power Family, and the information provided by Arthur W. Hendricks in researching the Hendricks (Henricks) family.  Nehemiah Smith purchased this land (which also included Piner Church, however the two are not necessarily linked) from the U.S. Government on April 3, 1829.  It has been said that a stipulation was made by Nehemiah Smith that this cemetery was to be reserved for burials of descendents of Nehemiah Smith.  Abraham Smock was one of the first ministers of Piner Church.  Piner Church no longer remains on the site, although it is clear where the church was situated on the site by the cemetery.  I am in possession of some historical information regarding the church for interested parties.  * *Indicates more information is available on these individuals due to genealogical research. * This transcript was originally gathered by Arthur W. Hendricks in June 1990 and submitted to the Indiana State Library.  During my visits to Piner Cemetery, I have attempted to include names or information which were not on the previous lists.  As this cemetery contains very old markers which are very difficult to read, I have done my best to translate the information.  I make no guarantee as to its complete accuracy.   Where original relationships were not stated on the inscriptions, I have added them where they are known.   If you know of any errors or omissions, please contact me and I will be happy to update the information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
