Vernon Eugene Martin attended Arsenal Technical High School, for a few semesters and was a Thespian while in attendance. Vernon Eugene Martin left Arsenal Technical High School in the middle of the depression to work and enlisted in the US Navy enlisted in the US Navy on July 30, 1935 at Indianapolis. He said that he was very happy to be accepted into the ranks at the time since it was not easy to enlist given the depression and that lack of need by the Navy during peacetime. Vernon Eugene Martin was highly enthusiatic, warm, energetic, and fully dedicated to the cause of US Navy, during his 21 year career, and had a great love for freedom, and pride in the United States of America. He was an avid actor, was very romantic with his various women friends, and enjoyed playing Santa Clause on Naval bases during Christmas, raised as a Baptist, he grew to enjoy all world religions, which embraced kindness, and generosity of spirit toward others. He rose from seaman to Lieutenant in his 21 years of active naval service throughiut the Pacific and Europe. Vernon Eugene Martin is survivor of the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, on Pearl Harbor, and was assigned to the U.S. California. Vernon Eugene Martin was commissioned in 1944 while serving aboard the USS Sheridan on which he was a plank owner and on which he participated, with unwavering resolve and tenacity to utterly extirpate Japanese Forces on in the Pacific.
