Marion County Indiana Pension file State of Indiana, County of Marion, SS: On this 17th day of April A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Seventy One, personally appeared before me, William J. Wallace, Clerk of a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid, WILLIAM McCLAIN now aged 81 years, a resident of Southport P.O., in the County of Marion and State of Indiana who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is married, that his wife's name was REBECCA HOAGLAND to whom he was married at Newcastle, Henry Co. Ky on the 30th day of September, 1810, that he served the full period of sixty days in the Military service of the United States in the war of 1812, that he is the identical WILLIAM McCLAIN who was enlisted in Captain WILLIAM RICEs Company, of the Kentucky Regiment, of the Militia Brigade, of the Division, at Newcastle, Henry Co. in the State of Kentucky or or about the 20th day of September, 1813, and was honorably discharged at Newcastle, Ky on or about the 25 day of December 1813; that he was a private, went to Vincennes Thence to Fort Harrison. thence to Pottawattimie towns, and was not in any engagement. Was mounted, and done duty guarding frontier against Indian Depredations etc. He has had a land warrant does not now remember the number of acres granted, that he at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enemies....., he hereby appoints with full power of substitution and revocation JOHN G. GREENWALT of Indianapolis, Ind., his true and lawful attorney, to prosecute his claim and obtain the Pension Certificate that may be issued. Admitted Oct. 23, 1871 to a Pension of eight dollars per month, from February 14, 1871.... .......... State of Indiana, Marion County} SS On this twenty sixth day of October A.D. eighteen hundred and fifty, before me the subscriber, a notary public within and for said County of Marion, personally appeared SAMUEL B. WOODFIL and being duly sworn on his oath says that WILLIAM McLAIN, by whom the within declaration was subscribed and sworn to is the identical person who served as a private in the Company Commanded by WILLIAM M. RICE in the regiment of Mounted Riflemen Commanded by Colonel Allen in an expedition on the waters of the Wabash under the command of Major General SAMUEL HOPKINS in the fall of 1812. On this 15th day of May, A.D. 1855, before me......personally came WILLIAM McCLAIN, aged sixty five years, a resident of Marion in the State of Indiana.......He further declares that he does not recollect the precise date of his enlisting and being dishcarged but thinks it was in the years 1813 or 1814. /s/ WILLIAM McCLAIN seal We NATHANIEL McCLAIN of Johnson Co and MARY HOGLAND resident of Marion Co. in the State of Indiana upon our oaths declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by WILLIAM McCLAIN in our presence.... and that we have no interest in this claim. /s/ NATHANIEL (X) McCLAIN seal, MARY (X) HOGLAND seal ..........
