BURKHOLDER - Jerry S. Burkholder was born in Bedford county, Pa., June 29, 1851, and departed this life December 12, 1918 being at the time of his demise 61 years, 5 months and 13 days of age. He was united in marriage on September 26, 1878, to Miss Amanda H. Ringle who on the 5th of April this year preceded him in death. To this union were born seven children, six daughters and one son: Mrs. Fannie Personette, Mabel and Esther Burkholder, of Denver, Ind., and John Burkholder of Peru, Ind., Gertrude Burkholder having preceded him in death in her childhood. He has been ailing more or less during the past year and as time passed he consistently and gradually grew worse. During his entire sickness patiences and kindness to his attendants were the prevailing feature of his nature. His early life was devoted to school work having taught in the common and grade schools of Miami Co., for a great many years wielding a lasting influence in the up building of a large community. In church work he was an active member of the Mt. Zion Reformed Church for many years or until active services were discontinued at that place. He was a kind and devoted father to his children who will behold loving remembrance so long as they shall live.
