After dinner he went out to the woods to cut down some timber. As he did not return at supper time, as usual, the family became uneasy for fear something had happened to him. Upon going to the place where he had been chopping, he was found on the ground dead, a snag from a falling tree having pierced his head, causing instant death. He had been cutting at the tree, and it is supposed it fell before he expected it, not allowing him to make his escape. Mr. Clendenen was 65 years old. Additional Comments: James Clendenen was 82 according to cemetery record.
