Visitation and services will be this week in Bloomington, Ind., with burial and military honors at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Born Feb. 2, 1932, in Dunmore, Pa., to Anthony and Grace Bonarrigo, she was a 1949 graduate of Dunmore High School, and went on to work as a seamstress for Scranton Garment Manufacturing in Dunmore. Mrs. Deykes served in the U.S. Air Force as an airman third-class radio mechanic. After moving to Bloomington in 1965, she worked as an assistant manager for JoAnn Fabrics, receptionist at Sarkes Tarzian and senior records clerk in the audiovisual department of Indiana University. She also worked at K-Mart East and University Elementary School. She was an Alaska resident since February 2004. She was a member of the Omega Phi Tau Sorority, past president of the Elks Ladies Organization, BPOE 446, and alongside her high school sweetheart of 51 years, Lowell Deykes, worked on the Elks-Clothe-a-child and Cancer Fly-In, and many more philanthropic projects. Her family wrote: "Ruth was foremost a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and gifted friend. She was our sunshine and our guiding light; she will be missed by all." Ruth is survived by her sister, Angie Gyza; children, Lowell Deykes Jr., Wayne Deykes of Chugiak, Ruth Tucker, Sandra Vincent, Patricia Harpring, Robin Deykes and Michael Deykes; seven grandchildren; and her miniature schnauzers, Buddy and Rosie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Deykes; brothers, Dom and Jim Colengelo, Paul, Marty and Anthony Bonarrigo; sisters, Angela Colengelo, Maryanne Kimmel, Carmel Miller, Nebbie Kotchik; and grandson, Marc Allan.
