When a boy of five, six or so, removed to Rowan County, which was later Wilkes Co., NC on the Yadkin River. Enlisted in summer of 1776 and served 3 months as first sergeant in Capt. William Lenoir's Company, Col Isaacs' North Carolina Regiment. Enlisted Spring 1777 and served 3 months as private in Capt Samuel Johnston's Company, Col Benjamin Cleveland's NC Regt. Enlisted in Fall of 1779 and served eighteen months as private in Capt William Lenoir's Company, Col Benjamin Cleveland's NC Regt and Capt Richard Allen's Company, Col Locke's NC Regt and was in several skirmishes with Tories. 10 April 1833, Monroe Co., IN, George Parks states he was age 73, born Amherst Co., VA 5 Aug 1759; that his father removed to Wilkes Co., NC on Yadkin River when he was a boy. In 1836 they lived in Burke Co., NC. Those in his neighbourhood he is known to: Rev. Isaac Reed, Jacob ___some, Joseph Rared, Elijah Morgan, John Service, John W. Lee, Benjamin Parks & Henry Kirkham. July 6 1795 or 1798, soldier married in Surry Co, NC, to Catharine Reed. George [his X mark] Parks 20 April 1833 allowed pension on application executed while resident of Monroe Co, Indiana. Died 7 December 1837 in said Monroe Co. 1836 Samuel Parks had a son William A. Parks living in Monroe Co., IN near George. __ March 1836, Burke Co., NC, affidavit of Samuel Parks. Samuel born Amherst Co. VA 28 Nov 1757; father to Burke Co., NC when he was age 10, settled Wilkes then at Rowan Co. until 1796 then adjoining county of Burke. s/s Samuel Parks Acknowledged R.C. Parson [or Pearson] J.P. 14 November 1843 widow Catherine Parks was allowed pension on application executed while a resident of Monroe Co, IN aged 66 years. 22 November 1843, affidavit of Catherine Parks, Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. 21 January 1845, Monroe Co., IN affidavit of Catherine Parks; witns Curtis Parks, George N. Puett, Camellia Clay, George W. Edmondson J.P. 2 February 1848, Dallas Co., TX, affidavit of Catherine Parks. Wits: Amelia Parks, Milly T. Wise, Carlos Wise, J.P. 12 November 1849, letter from Samuel T. Bledsoe, Pleasant P.O., Dallas Co., TX to Department of Pensions stating he had been requested as a charity case to investigate status of pension; stated she had not received it in 1848 or 1849. 30 August 1856 Catherine Parks living Dallas Co, TX, claim for Bounty Land. Children were: Hannah who married William Puett, Meredith [son], Alfred, Curtis, Sarah, Rebecca and Carlton. The following were children of George Parks by a former marriage, name of wife not given: Elizabeth, James born about 1781 [former member of IN Militia & IN Legislature], Samuel, Polly, Benjamin [1833 a clergyman in Monore Co, IN], Pleasant [former member of IN Legislature], Nancy and Milly. Catherine [her X mark] Parks Wits: Curtis Parks, Polly [X] Rawlins Acknowledged: John M. Rawlins, J.P. 14 November 1843 affidavit of James Parks, then age 62 living Marion Co., IN, states his father was George Parks. 18 November 1843 affidavit of William Puett age 46, stated he married Hannah Parks. 1848, Certificate of Pension sent to Curtis Parks, Navarro Co, TX.
