Mrs. Ennis was the daughter of Wm. Elkins. She was born in Kentucky Sept. 15, 1825, and came to Indiana with her parents in 1830, and settled in Morgan County. She was married to Anderson Ennis at the age of fifteen, and to them were born twelve children, eleven of whom are living and all married. She was left a widow in 1889, and with one son lived at the old homestead until her death. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Union church, conducted by Rev. Leffiagwell. As the remains were taken to the adjacent cemetery, eight of her grandsons acted as pall bearers, after which came her sister, the only one present, leading the six daughters; then the elder son leading the four younger brothers; four daughters-in-law and four sons-in-law were in line and many grandchildren. As the grave was reached, instead of looking into one so dark and dreary, we looked into one which was lined with white muslin. While tears dimmed our eyes and sorrow filled our hearts, she was laid to rest beside grandfather, within a few feet of where they commenced their married life in a log cabin. She died with her faith in God. Although unable to speak, her uplifted hand seemed to say, “All is well.” She leaves to mourn their loss, one brother, two sisters, eleven children, thirty-five grandchildren and twenty- two great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. QUINCY ENNIS.
