W. Prosser who died of heart trouble. Mr. Prosser was born at St. Maria, Indiana, on the 23 of February 1846 and was reared on a farm till almost grown, or till 18 years of age, when the rebellion broke out when our great ship was rolling and her masts were scorched by the hot breath of treason. He left the peaceful and endearing association of his parents to fight, and if necessary die for the nation that he dearly loved. Mr. Prosser enlisted in Co. G. 27 Ind., August, 1861, and participated in all the great battles, the army of the Potomac in 1863-63, re-instated and a veteran scarcely before he was 18 years of age, and was a prisoner of war at Belle Isle, 5 months or more and was with Sherman at Atlanta campaign and lost his leg in front of Atlanta in July 1864, and was carried off of the battle ground by Isaac Harter, who helped to carry him to his last resting place. Mr. Prosser taught school in this township for many years and was a good instructor. Politically, he was a Republican, and was elected twice for trustee of Jackson township in which position he faithfully accounted for every cent of the hundreds of dollars that passed through his hands, and in 1882 was elected Auditor of Morgan county. He served one term, after which he lived with his mother up to the time of his death. He belonged to the G.A.R. of this place. His funeral was largely attended on last Sabbath, and funeral services at the M. E. church by Rev. McCown after which he was laid in East Hill cemetery. His kind mother has the sympathy of the entire community.
