Newton Co., IN Biography Newton County, Jackson Township. From A History of Warren, Benton, Jasper & Newton Counties, 1883. GEORGE W. DEARDURFF was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, December 17, 1837, and is a son of Daniel and Lucinda (Heckathorne) Deardurff, the former a son of John Deardurff, who removed from Ohio to Tippecanoe County in 1838, and thence to this county in 1847, where he ended his life. Daniel Deardurff was born in Ohio in 1816 came to Tippecanoe County in 1833 and afterward married Lucinda Heckathorne. He remained in said county until 1845, removed to Newton County, and now lives in Kentland. He was twice married and is father to ten children--George W., Christian, John, Samuel, Daniel, Henry, Josephine, Sallie, Elizabeth and Mahala. Our subject, George W. Deardurff was brought to this county by his parents. April 25, 1861, he enlisted in Company H, Fifteenth Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and served until June 1, 1864, during which period he participated in many heavy battles, and was wounded at Mission Ridge November 25, 1863, by gunshot through the right shoulder and ankle, from which cause he remained in the hospital until discharged.
