WILLIAM KENNEDY Submitted by Wizzofozl0@aol.com  Newton Co., IN Biography    WILLIAM KENNEDY, dealer in hardware and implements, Morocco, Indiana began his business October, 1874, in connection with John Smart, under the firm name of Smart & Kennedy.  In 1877, he bought the interest of Mr. Smart, since which he has been sole proprietor.  Besides having a large and well selected stock of hardware, he is agent for the Plano Harvester and Mower, and the Buford and Wier Plows.  Mr. Kennedy was born in Montgomery County, Indiana February 11, 1841, and is a son of David and Susan (Gooding) Kennedy, natives of Virginia.  William received his early education in the schools of Newton County, remaining with his parents until twenty-one, when, with two brothers, he bought a farm of eighty acres, to which they afterward added forty more.  In 1869, he came to Beaver Township and purchased a farm of 220 acres, which he still owns, and upon with he resided before coming to Morocco.  He was married, October 1, 1865, to Mary A. Smart, a native of Newton County, and daughter of John and Lucinda Smart, both natives of Ohio.  They have two children--Stella and Gertie.  Mr. Kennedy served in the late war, enlisting in April, 1861, in Company H, Fifteenth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and serving until discharged March 12, 1863.  He participated in all the marches and battles of the regiment; was at Greenbrier, Virginia, Pittsburg Landing and Stone River, where he was severely wounded in the hand, on account of which he was discharged.  Politically, he is a Greenbacker, is a prominent man, and one of the early settlers of the county.
