Newton Co., IN Biography Newton County, Washington Township. From A History of Warren, Benton, Jasper & Newton Counties, 1883. RICHARD PIERCE was born in New Jersey January 14, 1823, his parents, James and Ann (Walker) Pierce, being residents of that State, his father being a farmer. He attended school until about fifteen, then worked on a farm until 1868, when he came to Newton County, Indiana, and purchased a farm in Section 26 in Washington Township. May 1, 1870, he married Nancy J., daughter of Francis Worley, of Iowa. They have four children--Elizabeth A., Levi C., Lillie M. and Francis E. He is a hardworking and self-made man. He worked for one man twenty years, but is now independent, owning a fine farm and extensively raising swine. In politics, he is Independent. He and his wife are members of the M.E.
