The Republicans of this county cannot afford to be without a paper and should encourage us by subscribing and urging their neighbors to.” 8 January 1880 Administrators sale- Notice is hereby given that by the virtue of an Order of the Owen Circuit Court, the undersigned, Administrator of the estate of John HILLIGAS, deceased, will offer for sale at public auction on the premises on Friday, 6th of February 1880, The following described land’ The south half of the south east quarter of section one; in township nine, range six, in Owen County, Indiana. TERMS- One third cash, the residue in equal payments at nine and eighteen months from the day of sale with notes at 6 percent interest, waving benefit of valuation and appraisement laws, secured by mortgage on the premises. Bert SLOWN was visiting at Cloverdale last week. Daniel MAUPIN spent a few days at Ellettsville last week. Mr. MM WINGFIELD, of Ellettsville was in town last week. Gen. M.C. HUNTER, who has been seriously ill for some time is rapidly recovering. Mrs. Robert MCNAUGHT and her bright little daughter, May , were visiting at Ellettsville last week. Married- On January 1st by Eld. Harrison GASTON, Shafet CRISP and Nancy ORMAN, all of this country. O.M. HOWARD and his partner have bought the Reported and are now conduction the only paper in Decatur County, Iowa. Chas CROW and wife returned from Greencastle Monday evening at which place that had been visiting for several days. A first class dog fight yesterday in which all the dogs in town participated was the most exciting incident of the day. Owing to a wash out on the western end of the road, the evening passenger did not reach her until dark Monday evening. The roads now are almost impassible. In this rocky country, it would not be very expensive for our people to have good roads. On New Years the citizens of Clay Township engaged in a fox drive. Not large enough number participated to make the affair one of interest. Mrs. SLUSS, of Bloomington, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Harrison HIGHT, for a few days, returned home yesterday, Mrs. HIGHT, accompanying her. Emery JOHNSON is expected here sometime this week. John A. MCHALEY returned on Tuesday from a trip to Illinois. The wife of Dr. D.M. CULVER is here visiting relatives and friends. Alec DAGGY’S child who has been sick for some time is getting well. HOPPER and THOMAS sold a lot of ten mules to an Indianapolis buyer this week. John N. THOMAS has bought the farm over in the flat woods recently occupied by D. F. RANDOLPH. Cy N. BUCHANAN is now teaching the Howard band at this place. Mr. B. is a good musician and successful band teacher. Gov. WILLIAMS passed through here going east on Tuesday evening. For several days he had been down in Knox looking after his stock, mostly cattle. A. W. FULLERTON is now able to be out. since his sickness, Mr. RICHARDS has had his hands full attending to the legal business under their charges. Hon. B. SCHWEITZER, presented his nephew Morris LEVISTEIN, two elegant pieces of furniture, valued at $50, as a birthday and New Year’s gift. The pieces were bought of DRESCHER. On Monday, Judge ROBINSON started to Bloomfield to hold court, but owning to the washout of the bride on the narrow gauge road, and the high waters generally he ordered an adjournment until next week. There is not a town in the State this size of Spencer who Post Office is as complete in all its appointments as the one at this place. Our Post Office is the source of universal admiration and general comment by visitors. Mr. COFFEY is very deserving of the high esteem in which he is regarded by our populace and patrons of the office. Miss Louisa J. REYNOLDS was called to Fair Play Friday by the serious illness of her father. Rev. Joel DILLON “said the words” for Mr. George W. HAUSER and Miss Olive WILSON at Bethel Sunday. Mr. Elisah CHILDRESS and Miss Amanda NORRIS legally ended a three year courtship at the residence of the bride’s father on New Year’s day. Morgan Township Institute The teachers of Morgan Township met in institute at school house No. 4 Dec 30 1879. Meeting called to order by the president. Homer HENDERSHOT conducted an excellent recitation in phonics. R. W. KNOW, in history subject; French and Indiana War; and W.F. HOFFMAN in reading. Dinner was announced. After partaking of a hearty repast, furnished by Mr. KNOW and his pupils, meeting was again called to order by the president. Warren BEAMER presented the subject of percentage; R C MAGILL, participle; SP MCCLURE, nervous system; and WS WILLIAMS, movements of the earth. The teachers showed themselves fully prepared and alive to their work. The following programme was arranged for the next institute: SP MCCLURE, Winds; Warren BEAMER, Geography of Indiana; W F HOFFMAN, infinitive; RH KNOX, Physiology- the eye’ WS WILLIAMS, Cause of the Revolution; Homer HENDERSHOT, Penmanship; RC MAGILL, Compound Proportion.
