Mrs. Wm. DAVIS, of Vincennes, is visiting at this place. Baptist Sunday School Social meets next at Mr. BOSWELL’S. Treasurer G.W. ELLIS has been at Indianapolis this week. Wm R. TINDOLPH is buying considerable grain in this county. Closing out Boots and Shoes this week and next at OVERSTREETS. Eld. HOLTS. Extraordinary Thanksgiving sermon was appreciated by a full house. Henry SANDSBERRY, who has been in Tennessee visiting for some time, has returned. Last Saturday OVERSTREETS and Sons sold more goods that they had on a single day for ten years. CURTIS and FISHER warrant all work done at their grist mill and solicit custom grinding. James K. SMIATH’S Free Press presents quite a good appearance. We hear it is soon to be enlarged. Mrs. PERRY, of this place, while visiting at Freedom last week fell down and broke on of her legs. Wanted. Wanted. 40 or 50 Horses, mares, and mules. HEADRICK came to this place to visit last Saturday. He will return to Indianapolis next week. Will C. JOSLIN has been promoted to a conductorship on a freight, which his many friends will be glad to learn. HOPPER and THOMAS shipped another car load of horses to South Carolina today. We have 50 Cemetery Lots for sale on the Hill south of Spencer. Apply to T.A. MCNAUGHT or R.N. BEEM. KENNEMACHER and DENIG will build a large mill at their stone quarry here, work to commence as soon as the bridge is complete. The “Walker Boot” just received. They are “A” No. 1. Call and get a pair. T.H. BOSWELL and CO. Supt. KING will attend Marion township Institute on the first Saturday in this month; Clay township on the second , and Wayne on the third. That energetic stock man Nat C. HOUSTON has been registered at the National for a week or two. He and another Greene county man are picking 2,200 hogs here. While attempting to board a train at Martinsville J.W. ANDERSON missed his footing and was caught by the car and dragged a short distance, doing slight injury to him. Paris C. JOHNS, Esq., Gosport, is the People’s authorized agent at Gosport, and expects to immediately canvas that locality for subscriptions. He will also take orders for all kinds of job work. Your especial attentions directed to the advertisement in today’s paper of the firm of BEEMS and NEWSOM. This house has long been one of Spencer’s thriving and reliable establishments. C.W. TALBURT, for several years one of the live dry good merchants of Greencastle, has decided to move his store to this place, and will ipen out the first of January, in the Franklin room, on the north side. Spencer is a good business point and men in different parts of the state have their eye on it. Just received a large stock of knobby hats also a fine lot of caps. T.H. BOSWELL and CO. Sheriff WOOD left this place last Thursday for a point in Kansas, to attend court concerning the HUBBLE case. Frank FIELDS was too mad yesterday to contain himself. He got stuck in the mud a distance from town and had to foot it in. Yesterday evening Fred. L. SMALTS, the accommodating merchant of Patricksberg, was married at Bowling Green to Miss Alice HUNT. We owe an apology for having stated last week that Eld. BURGESS preached his last sermon Saturday night Nov. 28. Last Saturday night after Eld. B.’s sermon Judge ROBINSON invited as many of the congregation as felt disposed to proceed at once to his residence to witness the presentation of an elegant reclining chair to the retiring pastor. The audience assembled after which the Judge brought out the chair and requested Mr. BURGESS to take a seat. Mr. HIGHT stepped forward and in behalf of the members made a concise and pointed presentation speech to which the recipient of the chair responded. Last Friday W.S. MEAD left this place for Ohio, and returned Tuesday night. He purchased of a gentleman in that state a body of land in Green County, this State on which is considerable stave timber. He has purchased a new outfit of machinery and will soon have the same in operation at Mineral City, Green County. We made a mistake last week in stating that he would conduct the stave business in Morgan County. He only sent machinery there to other parties. He has done an active business in Lawrence, Green, and Owen Counties handling over two million staves that past year. Gosport Gatherings Wesley ACUFF is w-a-y down in Arkansas hunting the deer. Mr. Henry JOHNS and lady spent the fore part of the week in Greencastle. Mr. Wm MALOTT and lady, of Bedford, spent Thanksgiving with J.R. HENRY and lady. Miss Eva LEWMAN has been confined to her room for the past few days with sore throat. Quite an enjoyable social was given last Wednesday evening by Miss Hattie MONTGOMERY. Mr. Thomas ROBINSON has erected an elegant sing in from of his shop, which reads, “Oyster Bay”. Miss Lilly WAMPLER, who has been visiting friends and relatives at Indianapolis, returned home last Saturday. Miss Effie SMITH who has been confined to her room with a sore throat, is, we are glad to state, able to attend school. Mr. Samuel E. SMITH, who is attending college at Bloomington, spent Thanksgiving at home. Samuel is as handsome as ever. We learn that Rev. PROSSER, who has had several years’ experience as a temperance lecturer, will give a lecture at Hays’s hall on tomorrow, Friday evening. A rare treat is expected and every one should attend. Admission ten cents. A wedding took place at the M.E. Church Tuesday night, Nov. 25th. After a short sermon by the Rev. T. WALKER Presiding Elder of Bloomington District, Miss ELLER, of this place and Mr. DENSON, of Guthrie, Indiana were bound together to share the hardships and pleasures of this life until death doth them part. Arnny items Mr. John A.V. FISCUS and family have removed to their new home near Johnstown, Indiana. Mr. F. has lived in this neighborhood for quite a number of years and leave a host of friends who regret the 1 as of such friendly and obliging neighbors as Mr. and Mrs. FISCUS. We wish them success. Jordan Village Dr. S.D. MEDARIS got shut of his government stock. It becomes necessary in the course of human events for us to chronicle the unison of the hearts and future happiness of two of our estimable young people.
