Parke County, Indiana bio. CLAUDE A. AND INA HAZLETT NOBLE Claude Allen Noble was born in Union Township on May 20, 1890 to S. Allen and Nancy Martin Noble, lifelong residents of Parke County. Mr Noble attended Union Township public schools and graduated from Rockville High School in 1910. He received an A.B. degree from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, in 1920, and a B.S. degree also from ISU, in 1924. He pursued graduate studies at Chicago University during the summer months for many years. Claude Noble began his teaching career in the Parke County school system in 1912. He served in the U.S. Army Cavalry in 1918 and 1919, and married Ina Gladys Hazlett in 1920. He resumed his career in education in Parke County as both teacher and administrator, serving as Superintendent of Rockville schools from 1929 to 1946. Mr. Noble retired from the school system in 1946, embarking upon a new career as Assistant Cashier at the Rockville National Bank from 1946 to 1958, taking time out to serve as a member of the House of Representatives of the Indiana General Assembly in 1951 and 1952. He loved farming and for many years managed the Noble Farm in Union Township, land which had been owned by the Noble family for four generations before being claimed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers as part of the Racoon Lake development project. Claude Noble was a member of the Rockville Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, the Rotary Club, the Farm Bureau and the Rockville Commercial Club. He died in 1958, survived by Ina and their daughter, Gertrude. Ina Gladys Hazlett was born in Greene Township on Aug. 27, 1896, to William and Melissa Smiley Hazlett, lifelong residents of Parke County. She attended Rockville High School and the Music Conservatory at Butler University. Ina shared her husband's interest in farming, politics, and education, and was an active member of the Rockville Presbyterian Church, the D.A.R., and the Rockville Current Literature Club. She loved music and taught piano for many years in Parke County. Ina died in 1975, having spent the last three years of her life in Tulsa, Ok, with Gertrude and her husband, the Rev. William Arbuckle, and their sons, Christopher and Matthew.
