ELKINS--April 26, 1931-June 08, 1990 MONTEZUMA -- Joseph R. Elkins, 59, of 103 S. Washington St., Montezuma, died at 2:30 P.M. Friday in the Vermillion county Hospital at Clinton. He was a retired semi- truck driver for Independence Truck Drivers of Chicago. Mr. Elkins was a member of the Montezuma Fish and Gun Club. Mr. Elkins was born April 26, 1931, in Parke County to Samuel and Gladys Farner Elkins. He married Joyce Clore. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter Sandra Juhl of Lyford; two sons, Joseph of Terre Haute and Michael of Joliet, ILL.; six brothers, Orville of Pennington Gap, Pa., James of Montezuma, Paul, Ronald and Donald all of South Bend, Kenneth of Rockville; four sisters, Vera Paddock of Newman, ILL., Helen Wall and Doris Walter both of Judson, Evelyn Lunog of Montezuma; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 10 A.M. Monday in Barnes Mortuary at Rockville with the Rev. J.O. Truesdale officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 P.M. Elkins, was one of the early settlers of the State of Indiana in Jackson, Brown, and Parke Counties. In the 1850 Jackson Co., IN. Census, William was living with the Amayiah Elkins family and next door to William Elkins the first settlers in what is now Brown County, Indiana.
