PETERSBURG.

An enterprising town and the capital of Pike county, twenty miles from
Vincennes, and seventy-five from New Albany. It is located in the midst of a
rich prairie country, which gives a good support to the place. It has a fine
courthouse in course of erection, which will add much to the appearance of the
place. It has also some fine residences and business houses, several churches,
good schools, &c. Population about 800.
