Wilkinson State of Indiana County of Putnam On this 23rd day of March A. D., one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, personally appeared before me, the clerk of the Circuit Court, a court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid, Elijah C. Wilkinson aged 78 years, a resident of Greencastle, Putnam County State of Indiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he was married, that his wife's name was Elizabeth Hixon to whom he was married at Highland County, State of Oh8o on the 15th day of August 1813, that his said wife died at Putnam County State of Indiana, on the 26th day of April 1866; that he served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the War of 1812; that he is the identical Elijah C. Wilkinson who enlisted in Captain Jones' Company, in the 1st Regiment of Ohio Volunteers, commanded by Colonel McCarty, at Highland Co., OH, on the 3rd day of April 1812, and never was discharged from the service aforesaid for the following reason, to wit: that he was captured at Detroit Michigan, on the 16th day of August 1812, and was paroled by the enemy and remained on parole during the entire war; that he never engaged in any other battle or skirmish than at said Detroit where he was captured that he heretofor applied for and received a land warrant, for 160 acres of land; that he respectfully refers to the records on file at Washington for full and complete history of his military service; that he at no time during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enemies of the government giving them aid or comfort; or exercised the functions of any office whatever, under any authority or pretended authority in hostility to the United States; and that he will support the Constiution of the United States; that he is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; that he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States, under the provision of the act approved February 14th 1871; and he hereboy constututes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation, John S. Jennings, of Greencastle, Indiana, his true and lawful attrney to prosecute his claim and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; that his post office is at Greencastle, Putnam County, State of Indiana, and his place of abode is said Greencastle, Putnam County, State of Indiana.
