YATER, Martha "Patsey" Rea was born 9 Sept. 1809 in Mecklenburg County, NC. At 
the age of 12 her parents moved to Indiana and settled near New Marion. She 
married Abraham Yater in June 1829 and settled on a farm near Versailles, IN. 
She had 14 children (9 daughters and 5 sons). Eleven still survive; 3 
daughters died after reaching womanhood; she also had care of two step-
children (still living). Her husband died 18 Oct. 1874. During the last years 
of her life, she lived with her youngest child, William at Home City, Ohio, 
where she died 27 May 1895. She was 84 yrs., 8 mos old. For three years she 
has been an invalid, confined to her room. She is survived by eleven children, 
37 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. She was not a member of any 
church, but she studied her Bible. She is buried in Cliff Hill Cemetery.
