March the 22nd 1843 Dear Brother and Sister, We have not had any word from you for about six years past. We would be extremely glad to have a letter from you. We moved into this state about 18 months ago. We have had good health since we moved into this state. We have a son three years old, a fine promising child. We have joined the separate Baptist church and Father Hall and the most of his family have joined the same church with us. We recommend to you to join some religious society as soon as convenient. We hope to meet you in happiness in the other world if we never see each other's faces here on earth again. Henry Clark and his wife lives in this state in Montgomery County near Crawfordsville and they have both joined themselves to the Methodist Church. Father and Mother Casad are both living yet and in good health except a lame ankle that afflicts father very much. Brother Jacob and wife was in good health the last time we heard from them, they lived near Palmyra in the state of Ohio. George Carpenter and Susannah was in good health the last time we heard from them. They had lost their second daughter. John Thompson and Orpha, his wife, were well the last time we heard from them. This is one of the most fertile countries on the globe. Every kind of production grows in great plenty. Wheat is now 37-1/2 cts per bushel, corn could be bought for 10 cts per bushel, pork $1.50 per [cut?], dried apples 50 cts per bushel, dried peaches 75 cts per bushel. Labor the common price is about 50 cts per day. I have not farmed any since I have been in this country. I have generally followed making shingles, for which I can get about $3.00 per thousand. We add no more, but remain your kind, loving and affectionate Sister and Brother until death. Isaac Casad and Sarah Kasad Additional Comments: This letter was sent to Isaac Casad's brother Daniel, and his wife, who were living in Greene County, PA. Most of the people referred to in the letter were Isaac and Daniel's siblings and their spouses. "Father Hall" probably refers to Sarah's father.
