Pioneer Cemetery North Judson, Starke County, Indiana submitted by Lorraine Van Dolah I have twice visited the Pioneer Cemetery in North Judson. When I first visited the cemetery in the 1980s the stones for the following were very legible but in mid 1990s, we could not even get a rubbing. I took pictures when we could read them; however, it was very late in the day but they can be read. George D. Ruthruff  (28 Mar 1801--05 Sep 1885) (The stones had the death dates and the ages from which I figured the birthdates.) Ellenor Ruthruff  (24 Sep 1811--02 Jul 1901) These two stones are small slabs and are located near where the fence makes a jog, almost on the hill that goes down and out near the backside of the library or the school (I've really forgotten). Next to these stones is a larger stone of their daughter and husband: Henry H. Englerth  (I don't have dates for him) Catharine Englerth  (30 Nov 1836--11 Feb 1918)      (I don't remember if these dates are on stone) Nearby is the stone for their son, Perry and Anne Englerth. Perry was one of the first doctors in/near North Judson. He is written up in the history book Ellenor's maiden name was Appenzeller. She and her husband came from Pennsylvania. Ellenor lived in North Judson or vicinity for 30 years before her death. After her husband's death, she spent the rest of her life living with the Englerths. We have several letters she wrote to her daughter in Kansas in the late 1800s. I believe that the next generation changed the name Ruthruff to Rotroff, or at least some of them did. George and Ellenor are my husband's great great grandparents. His great grandparents, John & Mary Bowers (their daughter), moved from Pennsylvania to Indiana and in the 1880s, to Kansas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
