ANGEL OF DEATH BECKONS FOR NILES CITIZENS
Toll of the Grim Reaper is Heavy During Last 36 Hours From Ranks of Pioneer
Settlers
	
	During the last 36 hours, the Angel of Death beckoned four pioneer residetns of
Niles to the Great Beyond, and today homes are in mourning in various parts of
the city. . .
William Shepard
	After a lingering illness, during which he bore up under a burden of suffering
with rare fortitude, Willliam Shepard died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P.
Personett, of French avenue, at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon.  Mr. Shepard, who
was nearly 90 years old, came here last September from Knox, Ind., where for
many years he had acted as postmaster and conducted a general store,  His wife,
with whom he had lived for 56 years, passed away six years ago.  Mr. Shepar[sic]
was a kind husband and indulgent parent, and his children realize the truth of
the saying that always he who travels fares best, even when he goes on that
last, long journey, for the heartache is to those who are left behind. The
children are Mrs. Personett, of this place; Chas Shepard of Knox; Stephen F.
Shepard of Ober, and Frank Shepard of Plymouth, Ind.  The Christian Science
funeral service was conducted at the home at 2'30 o'clock this afternoon by
Frank Shaw, first reader, and the remains will be taken to Knox for interment.
