Obituary MOTHER IS FOUND DEAD BY HER SON Mistake in Turning On Gas Range Ends in Tragedy. The accidental victim of asphyxiation from illuminating gas, Mrs. Christiena Drake, age 75, of Tyner, Ind., was found dead in bed at the home of. her son here, Elmer F. Drake, 522 Blaine avenue, whom she was visiting early this morning. Dr. Carl C. Reifeis, St. Joseph county coroner, who investigated, believes Mrs. Drake's unfamiliarity with , a combination gas and electric fixture was responsible for her death. In the coroner's opinion the aged woman in turning out the electric light upon retiring inadvertently turned on the gas. About 5 o'clock this morning Mrs. Drake's son, aroused by his wife who detected an odor of gas, investigated and found his mother dead in bed. Police were immediately summoned and responded with the pulmotor, but without results. The older Mrs. Drake had arrived to visit her son but Friday and was intending to return to her home at Tyner today. She was born In Ohio Nov. 30. 1852. Surviving are four sons. William E. Kelly and Elmer E. Drake, of South Bend: John L. Drake of Tyner, and Albert M. Drake, of Plymouth. Ind., and three sisters, Mrs. Calvin Gerard, of this city; Mrs. I. N. Gerard, of Tyner and Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon, of Bloomington, Ind. The body may be viewed in the Forrest G.
