Obituary - Charles Edward Welsh Charles Edward Welsh, son of Mr. And Mrs. Marion Welsh, was born April 25, 1868 and met his untimely death almost instantly, May 19, 1931, having been struck down by a hit and run motorist while crossing a street intersection in South Bend, departing this life at the age of 63 years and 24 days. Charley, as he was best known, was born in the state of Missouri, but shortly the family moved to a farm near Bucyrus, Ohio, where his early childhood was spent. At about the age of ten they again moved, this time to a farm in Marshall county, Indiana, where he grew to manhood. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Tressa Palmer of Chicago. To this union were born ten children. Three children proceeded him to death, two in infancy and one son at the age of seventeen. Surviving him are the widow and the following children, Guy, Everett, and Forest, all of Tyner. Roy, Mrs. Wm Wynn, Mrs. Harold Shiffer of South Bend and DeVaugh, at home; also one sister, Mrs. Samuel Frevert of Nappanee, Indiana; two brothers, Victor of Yokon, Oklahoma, and Samuel, of Plymouth, Indiana. Seventeen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Welsh spent most of his life on a farm near Tyner. In the year of 1915 he united with the United Brethren church at the place and attended services whenever possible, until the family moved to South Bend three years ago.
