MISHAWAKA.

A town in St. Joseph county, on the Michigan Southern & Northern Indiana
railroad, eighty-nine miles from Chicago, and four from South Bend. It has a
population of over 3 000, and contains eight churches, excellent school
advantages, a good weekly newspaper—the Enterprise- and a goodly number of
stores, shops, etc. Its position on the St. Joseph river, gives it abundant
water power, which has been extensively improved; but much power yet remains
unimproved. The country around is productive, and well settled by wealthy farmers.
