H Burkett Dead At County Infirmary - Had been in the County Jail Up to Last Saturday - Dr. W. H. Burkett, of 213 North Hill street, died yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the county infirmary, following an attack of delirium tremens. He was removed to the infirmary on Saturday afternoon after having been picked up and detained in the county jail. Dr. Burkett was a veteran of the civil war and a pioneer physician. A little more than a year ago, it is said, he was under suspicion in connection with the grand jury investigations of Maggie Penrose and Lizzie Van Riper, indicted on charges of performing an illegal operation. The probe of Dr. Burkett's case; however, never got beyond the grand jury room and the details never reached the public. The deceased physician was a member of a local fraternal order and it is probable that, although funeral arrangements have not been completed, services will be held under the auspices of that organization. He is survived by a daughter, whose residence is not known, and a son, who lives in Seymour, Mo.
