Republican, 13 Jan 1855 FATAL FALL--We regret to learn that on the 9th inst., Alexis Coquillard, of South Bend, while walking out upon the walls of the ruins of a mill (of which he was part owner) and losing his balance, fell a distance of about 15 feet, striking the back part of his head upon stone, fracturing his skull in such manner that he died in an hour. He was a man of great energy and perseverance, was long an Indian trader at South Bend, and one of the Pioneers of the country bordering on the St. Joseph. His name deserves an honorable mention in the annals of the west. Additional Comments: Note: The masthead of this newspaper says 13 Jan 1854, but various items appear to indicate that it was actually 1855.
