South Smith street, was killed through the accidental discharge of a 12 guage double shotgun. Mr. Wahl says that after leaving his son in the woods, he started for the house. Several shots were later heard by G. P. Walker and Victor LeFree. As he did not return home, the father at 11 o'clock returned to the woods and found his son's body within five feet of the gun. It was thought that he had been dead two hours. He called neighbors to assist him in taking the body back to the house. Coroner T. J. Swantz of South Bend, viewed the remains, yesterday and this morning after the inquest rendered a verdict of accidental death. "Upon examination," Dr. Swantz said, "the wounds showed that but one shot had been fired, entering the body in the abdomen, and leaving on the left side of the chest wall. The position of the body showed that he had tried to crawl for help. The neighbors heard four shots, but he probably was shooting squirrels." Mr. Wahl, who at the time was proprietor of a West Fourth street coal yard, was born January 12, 1871, at the farm where he died yesterday. Ten years ago he married Miss Mary Walker, who survives him. He leaves also, his parents, Mr. and Ms. Phillip Wahl; two brothers, William Wahl, of Mishawaka, and Ezra Wahl, of South Bend; and one sister, Mrs. Frank Warner, of South Bend. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip aWahl, and at 10:30 from the German Lutheran church, Rev. Phillip Willie officiating.
